About Window Flowers
In January 1947, Windowflowers was founded as a horticultural nursery specialising in the supply and subsequent planting and maintenance of windowboxes to businesses within Central London. Due to the scarcity of materials, Second World War ammunition boxes were used as containers. Indeed it was only in the mid-90s when the last ammunition boxes were removed from windows in Guildhall Yard in the City of London.
The company expanded during the post war years as result of demand created during The Festival of Britain and The Coronation.
In the 1960s and 1970s we pioneered the installation of tropical plant displays within offices. Through the 1980s we designed, installed and maintained lush verdant atrium areas.
During this time London gains a global reputation for its greenery and the love of our beautiful countryside. While the concept of windowboxes on commercial buildings is now beginning to be spotted elsewhere around the world and demands grew.
Throughout the 1990s, Windowflowers develops an added service a weekly fresh cut flower service for reception desks, hotels and restaurants in London. We now supply over 500 vases of flowers every Monday morning. Our clients have included 10 Downing Street, The Ritz, Claridges, The Royal Horticultural Society, DEFRA, Marks and Spencer and Conran.
More recently we have been helping to revitalise the High Street by installing and maintaining beautiful hanging baskets in town and city centre locations. We now install and maintain over twelve thousand hanging baskets, mostly on lamp columns, in the public domain every year.
We take great pride in our efforts to improve our environment and we hope that you too will help us to achieve this.
